Hi Rednest, Thanks for your excellent comment. I've got more current data coming up in another post on noise later this week.

Just as beauty is subjective, so is noise - this is not to trivialize the issue in the least. Some people are extremely sensitive to sensory input - of all kinds, one kind, or a few. We need to pay attention to those who are seriously stressed by turbine blade movements. But we also have to be wary of those who just do not want a wind turbine in their visual space using a valid issue for some as if it were a pervasive issue for ALL.... that's my concern.

Every single one of the issues discussed here on my website and in the public at large have validity - the challenge is to be able to separate out those for whom it is a valid problem in search of a solution and those who will just bang any drum loudly to keep wind turbines out of their back yard.

Geoff Leventhall is an acoustician who has not actually studied wind turbines himself, although he has warned of the seriousness of low-frequency and infrasound noise to a significant part of the population ("A Review of Published Research on Low Frequency Noise and Its Effects: Report for Defra" by Dr Geoff Leventhall, Assisted by Dr Peter Pelmear and Dr Stephen Benton, May 2003).

The sound conditions in a home near a wind farm in Portugal were found by researchers to be worse than those in homes where people were documented to have suffered physically from the noise of a grain terminal (Mariana Alves-Pereira and Nuno Castelo Branco, Press Release, May 31, 2007).

This is an emerging issue and shouldn't be dismissed so readily. Dr. Nina Pierpont of Malone, N.Y., is preparing for publication a peer-reviewed book-length study of several cases pointing to what she has named "wind turbine syndrome". The book can be previewed (and ordered) at her web site: http://www.windturbinesyndrome.com/?page_id=932
